Held biennially, the 2020 edition was canceled due to COVID-19, but the event was finally hosted again in 2022. Although Shotl had previously participated in the Conference, this year's edition was the opportunity to be officially presented under the umbrella of Dubai-based mass transportation company Swvl, following its IPO on New York’s Nasdaq tech market in late March. Along with Shotl, other attendees were pioneering and leading European mobility companies that have recently joined the Swvl family, like the German door2door and UK-based Zeelo.
The event was a huge success and the Swvl booth attracted the attention of visitors and exhibitors alike, all eager to learn about the latest developments in demand-responsive transport, see a demo, and meet our team of mobility experts. All part of the mass transportation revolution that DRT technology is bringing about.
Swvl also contributed to the event with a talk by Lukas Foljanty, Principal for Public Sector and on-demand ridepooling market expert. Mr. Foljanty recently joined Swvl to lead its expansion of mass transit solutions in Northern and Eastern European markets. Under the title “On-Demand Public Transit – Unlocking a Bus Network's Full Potential,” he spoke about the evolution of the market and highlighted how Swvl's portfolio of products and services helps cities and public transport operators develop the full potential of their bus networks. In his recent report on the state of the On-Demand Ridepooling & DRT market, Mr. Foljanty highlighted that he expects 2022 to be another strong year, with even more municipalities looking to include Ridepooling as part of their public mobility strategy in more maturer markets that have seen strong growth in recent years.
The three days of the IT-Trans Conference were demanding but satisfying. Being in Karlsruhe allowed us to meet and make ourselves known to many mobility and public transport stakeholders. By working together, we can do our part to improve existing public transport systems and make our cities more sustainable, attractive, and inclusive places to live and work.
