In Europe regions such as the metropolitan areas of Barcelona or Malaga in Spain, PTOs have long deployed Swvl’s On-Demand technology and managed to move 240,000+ passengers successfully. The operation was launched to help those who don't have access to private vehicles or whose first and last mile commuting needs are not met by traditional public transport.
In September, Swvl partnered with Barcelona's PTO, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona 'TMB' in Torre Baró Sud/Vallbona. Torre Baró is an isolated neighborhood in a complex hilly geography, which makes it difficult for traditional public transport to achieve optimal ride frequency and waiting times. However, after launching Swvl's technology, ridership exceeded 600+ passengers in the first week alone.
In October, we also saw another launch for Swvl's On-Demand Transit operations in Alhaurín el Grande, serving a population of 25,000+ citizens, which makes it PTO Avanza's second operation in the province of Malaga following the success of connecting the scattered areas in the town of Cártama.
These two launches are two steps closer to more innovation, better accessibility, and greener mobility ecosystems.
