Taking off with On-demand Mobility at Munich Airport

Shotl’s on-demand mobility platform is the backbone of a new project currently underway at Munich Airport. The project aims to improve workplace mobility for airport employees by getting former baggage carriers, with health issues, to act as drivers for their colleagues during working hours.

Companies are taking more and more responsibility when it comes to increasing sustainability and an important aspect in this regard is mobility: assisting and enabling employees to switch to shared modes of transport. Reducing car-dependency is not only relevant for commuting purposes but it also applies during working hours, e.g. with smart Shuttles that transport workers to meetings in different buildings.

Here at Shotl, we are very excited to announce that we are Munich Airport’s preferred partner for the launch of this new Shuttle Service as it reduces car dependency whilst improving mobility. The service will be delivered under the brand “ShuttleMe”. In its initial stages, “ShuttleMe” consists of a three-van fleet, all driven by former baggage carriers who have been re-trained to perform this new role. It is an ideal match as these employees are already familiar with the service area as well as with the company’s values and etiquette.

The project pursues two goals:

  • Firstly, it aims to test the case for shared Shuttles as a substitute for underutilized company and/or department cars, both operationally as well as financially.
  • Secondly, it explores the potential for a smart Shuttle to provide a service which can be offered to companies and workers residing on the airport campus. Providing an attractive mobility option will be crucial to the airport’s future aspirations of enhancing and actively engaging in its real estate management.

Assisting in and forming a crucial part of this project with a strategic partner as renowned as Munich Airport is a privilege for Shotl as it will allow us to better understand the needs and possibilities of work-related mobility.
